Meyer de Waal
De Waal, a practising attorney and director of Oosthuizen and Co Meyer de Waal Inc (1998/23947/21), was admitted in 1988 as an attorney, conveyancer and notary in Cape Town. De Waal's inspiration to start rent2buy and My Budget Fitness came from his company’s participation in raising funds and subsequently constructing houses in the Mfuleni township project:
A home owner had to enrol in a 6-month continual savings programme in order to qualify for a house
- If the potential home owner failed to meet this commitment, he/she had to re-start the 6- month contribution period
The challenges that these potential home owners had to overcome in order to acquire their homes, together with establishing a track record and maintaining such, planted the seed for De Waal to find a creative solution.
His other achievements include:
- Member of the Cape Town Law Society Wills and Estate Committee
- Property Lecturer at Cape Technicon and Institute for Estate Agents
- Contributor to 2008 Rode Report
- Presented seminars to the Upington and Cape Town Law Society on Trusts in 2009
- Guest Expert for the SA Real Estate Investors magazine
- Founding member of CAP, a Section 21 Company focusing on providing assistance to emerging contractors from disadvantaged backgrounds. www.capsa.org.za
